Zak Smith

Hey y'all!

So I'm gonna tell you guys about this dude called Zak Smith. This is a guy who, with the help of his band, makes brilliant, outstanding music! I very recently noticed this band, and I immediatly sent a message asking them permission to write an entry about them.

Zak Smith is a songwriter born in New Jersey. The band was formed in 2010 in New York City, and involves Gavi Grodsky (guitar), Dave Smith (bass), Keith Robinson (drums) Milan Sudzuk, Kurt Thum (keyboard), Jessica Labus (backing vocals) and of course, Zak Smith (guitar, lead vocals).

Even though Zak's raspy voice to me, is very indie/alternative rock, i find that because of the bass-guitar combination the genre is very old school, Lynyrd Skynyrd meets a kind of a soft Nirvana -ish rock.

I am absolutely in love with this band. I think they really deserve more attention than they're getting, and I hope you guys can help me help them to get it! This is a brilliant, soulful band with so much charismatic charm and fearless presence. The combination of the raspy vocals and amazing guitar riffs with the rhythmic bass and drums is absolutely breathtaking!

To know more about Zak and the band, check out their homepage, there you can also listen to and download their music! If you like what you hear, go like them on Facebook, where you can see an amazing music video about Occupy Wall St. to one of their new songs: Brand New Party. Also remember to follow them on Twitter!

Zebrahead

The year was 2008, and Simple Plan were playing at the Cable Factory in Helsinki. I was there with my friend. That night shall remain unforgettable, since many things happened on that night. One thing, was that I made a discovery. A very big discovery. A band called Zebrahead. This band was touring with Simple Plan, and therefor played at the concert. And my goodness were they good... They were freckin' AMAZING. They were there to pump us up, and holy shize, THEY DID. I've never been at a concert where the atmosphere was that energetic and... simply amazing. I'm still baffled. They must be one of the greatest live bands of all time, and I feel so honored that I've gotten to see them play. And not only are they good live, they're great in studio as well. Just listen for yourself:

Zebrahead - Get Back
Zebrahead - Hello Tomorrow

Right??? Now, imagine THAT live!!!

I've loved this band ever since that cold, rainy, October night at the Cable Factory. Now I encourage you all to love them as well. This is a band that deserves so much more attention and fame than they're getting. They are truly talented and so goddamn amazing! The lyrics are always so right on and badass, and they're music is so fresh and outstanding! They play sort of punk-rock music but the singer raps. I know, right? INCREDIBLE. If you like Linkin Park and/or System of a Down, you probably will love this band.

That's all folks!

Oh and also check out another favorite of mine: Zebreahead - Here's to you

I know, I'm mad too

I'm sorry you guys! I know I haven't written in like forever... And it bums me out too! Look, I want you to know, that I DO have some interesting new bands for y'all, but I haven't had the time to write anything about them yet. You see, here's my brilliant excuse: I've been working. And I work evenings. It's hard for me to write anything in daylight, and on nights when I get home I'm exhausted. And I know what you're thinking, "Well why can't you write on weekends??" and the simple answer to that is that I actually am busy at weekends too. Social events and such... Yes, that means parties. Don't judge me, I'm only human.

Well so anyhow, my working days shall soon be behind me for a while, I shall soon go back to being a fulltime student. But for now, I WILL try to up my game a little, and I've actually been trying to arrange for y'all to have some pretty pictures to look at in my posts.

I think that'd be all for now, don't forget to check out the bands I already HAVE written about!
Hope y'all have a good week, I'll try posting something by the end of it. If not about a new band, maybe some updates about my 'old' ones. Or an awesome playlist! KEEP YOUR  EYES OPEN!

And I also wanna remind you guys to help me out, if you know any awesome bands or awesome new songs, LET ME KNOW!

Aright, love y'all, peace out! ;)

The Harvest

Check out this awesome female-fronted rock band! http://www.theharvestrocks.com/

This is a 4-piece band from Vancouver, B.C. in Canada. This quartet with three chicos and one chica, rocks out with a fresh sound like you've never heard! The cool rythym comes from a guitar, a drumset and a bass. This mixed with the edgy vocals of an amazingly talented singer makes this band as great as it is!

While I'm writing this I'm listening to their songs, and I find myself swinging with the rythym and popping my toes. I hardly ever do this, unless I'm in a very bouncy mood (which okay, is kind of often...)

I usually don't like female-lead bands (which I know is pretty silly and judgmental) but I can honestly say that I adore this band! Not only is the music and melody fun and creative, so are the lyrics! This is exactly the kind of music that just puts you in a fantastic mood!

So, check them out, you wont be disappointed. And I know I say that alot, but seriously y'guys! I don't do promo for lousy bands!!! Links below:

Good Luck Jane - Sugar Rush

Hey everyone! BIG NEWS!

I am so happy right now. I got the opportunity to help out one of my favorite bands Good Luck Jane, by reviewing their new song Sugar Rush! So if you're a fan of these guys, you should definitely go check it out on YouTube or Facebook! If you haven't heard them before, now's a great time to do so!

This song, Sugar Rush, has got the most amazing lyrics, and the music is absolutely perfect! The intro is very interesting, it gets you insanely intrigued to hear more. The song continues with a very magical melody and as mentioned earlier, amazing lyrics. The chorus is incredibly catchy, which I consider a good thing. After listening to this song for about three times, I can almost sing along to it! I love how the song has different stops. Like in the beginning and in the end, the music just stops for a sec, which builds up tension and excitement. And also, the way they've built the song is just amazing! It takes a great musician to build up a song really well, and let me tell you, these guys definitely did an awesome job.

Well, I am officially in love with this song, so go! Check it out! Do it now! If you wanna know more about the band, you should check out their homepage.

The Vinyl Countdown

Here's a pop/alternative band with a charming sound!

These guys make music reminding me of All Time Low and Hawthorne Heights with a touch of NeverShoutNever! These guys definitely have something good going on. Personally, I adore the singer Josh's vocals. The lyrics are wonderfully sweet and sound perfect with his voice! The guitarist Jeff is also incredibly talented, as well as the drummer Raine and basist Zack. These guys are very young, the age range is from 17 to 19. Get this, these guys are so talented now, imagine how absolutely amazing they'll be in the future! I'm very impressed.

When I asked the singer Josh if he'd like me to write something special about them, this is what he replied: "We're trying to make something new in a scene that is very stagnant and recycled." So there you have it! I loved the way he put it, and couldn't have said it better myself so I had to add that in his words exactly.

Anyways, these guys are very good, so go check them out! Links below!

SYN{A}PSE

Finally, I've been writing this one for I don't know how long! But now it's here, ENJOY!

SYN{A}PSE is a rock band from Victoria, B.C. The band consists of four guys, with a mutual passion for making brilliant music. Their style is very complex, I can't really put my finger on it. They mix mind-blowing guitar riffs and enchanting lyrics with outstanding drum work and a remarkable bass.

What striked me as I listened through their songs again, was how their songs build up as you listen to them. It's really amazing how they're able to keep me listening. Usually I get bored if a song doesn't start right away, but when they do it... I get even more intrigued.

They most certainly have a unique sound. I think I can hear a little bit of System of a Down in their music, but otherwise, I don't know what to tell you. Check them out and hear for yourself! One thing's for sure though, they are incredible at what they do and I absolutely love them!

Johnny One Match

Here's another band for y'all!

This one is a four-piece rock/alternative band from LA, California. Now, this band contains twin brothers, lead vocalist/guitarist and drummer/vocalist, which I think is pretty cool. Johnny One Match also has another guitarist and a bass player (who also sings).
When these four guys play, something awesome happens. They create amazing music together. Their music reminds me of any other alternative band I listen to, but what makes this band so special and awesome, is not only the incredible guitar riffs and the brilliant vocals, but also the fact that I could listen to them whenever. Like, whatver mood I'm in, it fits with the music. And that's very rare to find in a band these days, so definitely a BIG plus to that!
If alternative is your style, you should definitely check this band out, it's great stuff!

La Vie

My goodness, have I got a band for you guys, OR WHAT!

Truly, truly talented band: La Vie. This is a 5-piece band from Venice, California. These guys are rocking with three guitars, a keyboard, a bass, drums, a percussion and beautiful vocals. Their sound is very rock-meets-country, kind of like a mix of Rascal Flatts and The Fray. This is definitely something I might listen to when I'm feeling down and need cheering up, or if I'm just in a really great mood! The lyrics are incredibly beautiful and intelligent. Very special kind of music, never really heard something like it. Maybe it's 'cause I haven't listened to this type of music before, or maybe it's 'cause these guys really found something unique? Either way, I absolutely adore their music and I think you will too! So, by all means, check them out, you wont be disappointed. If you are... nvm, you wont be.
While both of their EP's are available on iTunes, you should know, that they are making their album in the early fall. I am so looking forward to that!

Oh, and if you happen to be in LA tomorrow night, go to Hotel Cafe to check them out LIVE at 10pm! Disappointed I can't be there, but I hope y'all will check it out!

Nostalgia

Well hello!

Thought I'd give you guys a little update on what's going on!

So I'm currently working on a couple posts about these two new great bands for y'all! Why it's taking such a long time, is simply 'cause... well, I'm a bit of a perfectionist. So if it's not just right, I can't possible post it. But don't worry, I'll post them next week, PROMISE! So keep your eyes open, they'll be there! + maybe a few extras ;)

Another thing, I am totally psyched and all nostalgic and excited, because: I FOUND MY LONG LOST SONGS! Not only that, I found my looooooong lost pictures and documents too! You see, my old computer broke a couple years ago. On it, I had all my photos and my 2000+ musical library! So you can imagine how thrilled I was earlier today when I connected that old hard drive to my now not-so-new computer! YAY! And you can also imagine how nostalgic it is to listen to all these songs that I used o listen to TWO YEARS ago! And oh, the old pictures! I already posted some on fb, they're hilarious! We're all so small on them!!

Now that we're on the subject of music that makes you nostalgic, I thought I'd post a few bands, possibly songs, that I lost and love:

Cute Is What We Aim For especially Newport Living and Moan
The Decemberists especially Los Angeles I'm Yours
Hawthorne Heights especially Decembers and This Is Who We Are
Kill Hannah especially Crazy Angel and Lips Like Morphine
Modest Mouse especially Baby Blue Sedan
My Morning Jacket
NeverShoutNever! especially I Just Laugh and Happy
Phantom Planet especially California
Rascal Flatts especially Why and Here Comes Goodbye

Well there are a few. Check out their other songs as well, there are plenty of awesome songs on their albums ;) If you want further advice, feel free to contact me!

Next, what makes YOU nostalgic?

Linkin Park @ Kaisaniemi, Helsinki [PICTURES]

The pictures are in the wrong order, so if you wanna look at them in the order that I took them, start with the last one. And the quality of these are NOT the best, so sorry for that too. Linkin Park forever

Hey folks!

Sorry I haven't written in a while, summer is a very busy time for me. Well luckily, I do have something juicy to tell you guys: about three weeks ago I went to see one of the greatest live bands of all time: LINKIN PARK.

That's right, on June 16th I was in Helsinki at Kaisaniemi and saw those guys playing their hearts out! It was a truly amazing show, it was what I had hoped for, and more! Since I am not a fan of their two newest albums, I'm more of a Hybrid Theory and Meteora girl, I was so excited when I realized they had played just a few of their new songs and more of the older ones!

This was the first time I saw Linkin Park live, and they really blew me away. I mean, my brother showed me a few live videos, but actually seeing them live... It was amazing. What amazes me most, not only their incredible talent, but also their cool-factor. I mean these guys are seriously COOL! They look like frecken gods up there! When you see them, you have such an amazing amount of respect for them, it's almost overwhelming.

Now, I was lucky enough to be in like the fourth row, so my view was not that bad. I got a bunch of great photos too, I thought I'd share them with you in the next post. Yes, that's right; a separate post for the pictures. I just looked at the videos and sadly, the sound is horrible. My camera is not really made for concerts. So I'm terribly sorry that I can't show them to you.

Well, this was an unusually long post, and I could probably go on forever telling you how much I love LP and that I've been their loyal fan since I was about 7 years old and my brother made me listen to Don't Stay and From the Inside. But I wont. I wont, because I'm pretty sure you have other things to do now. Hope I didn't completely waste your time with this, and I hope you'll enjoy the pictures that are coming up in a sec ;)

Much love to y'all!

Awesome Playlist #1

I figured since I adore making all sorts of playlists on my ipod, I could share them with you here! The playlist I'm listening to atm, is a collection of songs I've heard at parties between the year 2009 and the present. In my opinion, a song can't be "old", even though I do use the expression from time to time. What I mean when I say it, is simply that it's been a long time since I heard the song. I think that if a song is good, you can listen to it for as many times as you want. Music has no expiration date!

Alright, let's get down to business ;)

#1
Club can't handle me - FloRida & David Guetta (2010)

#2
Replay - Iyaz (2009)

#3

Stockholm Syndrome

... is a fantastic song by Muse, and a concept that's quite intimidating. Look it up, if you're interested. The song or the concept, either way...

Stockholm is a great city, I really love being there. The people in Sweden are in general really sweet, but in Stockholm it's so much more than that! The people are genuinly nice, if you need help you'll get it, 'cause they actually want to help you!
In my opinion, Stockholm should be named as one of the fashion capitals of the world, and IS actually a fashion capital of the Nordic countries. But not only do the people of Stockholm dress well, they are incredibly artistic by nature. I've noticed some bands and artists (not only from Stockholm) that I think are really good, and I thought I'd share them with you! Now, some of them sing in Swedish, but don't let that stop you from listening to them! This is a great opportunity to learn some Swedish! ;)

Lars Winnerbäck (Linköping)
Hoffmaestro & Chraa (Stockholm)
Håkan Hellström (Gothenburg)
Joakim Thåström (Stockholm)
Ebba Grön (Stockholm)

The next list includes some artists and bands that are fairly legendary in Sweden. If you want to know about the Swedish music history, these are the ones you'd want to pay attention to. Ask any Swede about these bands/artists, they're gonna FOR SURE know who you're talking about.

Abba (If you've seen the movie Mamma Mia! you should know who these are)
Carola (Pretty much the Celiné Dion of Sweden)
Gyllene Tider (They're singer Per Gessle had a very successful solo carrier)
Lisa Nilsson (One of Swedens most beloved singers)
Tomas Ledin (Pesonally, I think he's one of Swedens most talented singers)

The Deadlies

Listen up folks, got a hot new band for ya guys! These guys definitely know what they're doing, trust me. With the singer's raspy voice, the guitarist's energic riffs and the amazing rythm by the bassist and drummer, an edgy rock sound is created. Personally, it reminds me of the real old school punk-rock. Although I wouldn't classify them as old school punk-rock. But they remind me of it! I'll tell ya this much; if you like that rough kind of rock, CHECK THESE GUYS OUT! On their homepage you can find the sites they're registered with, for example their Twitter account.

The Soundtrack of My Life

21 tracks that all tell a little something about my life so far. They come in the order of where the first one is the first song that I've found a true connection with. It was actually at that moment when I truly found music. It's when I realized how much it means to me. Due to some unpleasant stuff that has happened to me in my life I found music to be very comforting and at one point, music was really the only thing I could trust to always be there for me. Note the lyrics in every single one of these songs, for they all mean a lot to me. Either metaphorically or literally.

  1. Papa Roach - Scars
  2. Good Charlotte -  The Anthem
  3. One Republic - Stop and Stare
  4. Linkin Park - Numb
  5. Linkin Park - Crawling
  6. Good Charlotte - Hold On
  7. Jimmy Eat World - Hear You Me
  8. The Fray - How To Save a Life
  9.  Breaking Benjamin - Diary of Jane
  10. Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue
  11. Flyleaf - All Around me
  12. Good Charlotte - Where Would We be Now
  13. Blue October - 18th Floor Balcony
  14. Goo Goo Doll - Iris
  15. Papa Roach - Reckless
  16. Jesse McCartney - It's Over
  17. Adam Lambert - Can't Let You Go
  18. Adam Lambert - Sleepwalker
  19. Tyler Hilton - Our Time
  20. Papa Roach - Carry Me
  21. Papa Roach - To Be Loved

While I was putting this list together, I had tears in my eyes. That should tell you how much these songs mean to me. They all share one thing: great meaning. All of these songs tell a story. It's that story that I've captured and twisted into my own life. As far as I'm concerned, these songs could all be written about or by me. I'm sure we all have songs like these. It took a great amount of willpower and control to do this list. They all opened up some fresh, and not-so-fresh wounds in me. Things that I've wanted to leave behind came rushing back up to the surface. Now I dare you, make a list of your own. And see what feelings that list brings you, you might be surprised.

Tyler Hilton

So let me tell you about this guy...

You might recognize him from the series One Tree Hill as Chris Keller, a singer/songwriter. But the fact is, he actually IS a singer/songwriter. And a damn talented one as well! The 27 year old singer and actor from Palm Springs, CA has appeared in a few movies with some smaller parts, but he has said that he wants to focus on his music.

I absolutely LOVE the songs he sings, his voice is so sweet and raspy and GORGEOUS! As well as he is ;)
TJ (Tylor James Hilton) has recorded two albums, of which my favorite is The Tracks of Tyler Hilton, his second album. His first album is self-named, and also absolutely amazing! He's also recorded two EP's, Better on Beachwood and Ladies and Gentlemen.

Piano thingy

Yesterday I videotaped one of the members of Nation Attacks Enemy, while he was playing an improvised "Piano thingy". It's really good, very beautiful. It reminds me of Muse's Bliss, but with a Middle Eastern tone. Check it out here! Check out their other stuff while you're at it!

Nobody Gets Killed

Another duo, this one from California! One of them armed with a piano and vocals, the other one with a guitar and a bass, out comes a soft, alternative sound like no other! For those who like Coldplay, The Fray and Radiohead, this band is definitely something for you! For more info about the band, and where to find their music, check out their homepage!

The Classics

Now, these do not come in a specific order, I'm just naming them in the order as they come to me.

Aerosmith
Rolling Stones
Nirvana
Guns N' Roses
The Ramones
The Beatles
If you ask me, all of these bands are a huge part of rock history. To this day, these bands are important to many musicians and have influenced them in some way. I love all of these bands, and even though I don't consider myself as a musician they do inspire me.

Below are my favorite songs by them, check them out!
*Special favorites

"Music, makes the people, come together"

That's from a Madonna song. I don't really like her, but those lyrics are just so right on!

I thought I'd tell you a bit about my current favorites in the art of music:

1. Papa Roach
I've been a fan of Papa Roach for a long time now. Even though I had a bit of a break where I didn't listen to them much, I have now found them again! Jacoby's raspy, beautiful voice kills me everytime! Plus, their melodic, yet edgy and hard sound is so thrilling and soothing at the same time. Don't even get me started on the lyrics! Not only, do they have emotional and personal meaning to me, but you can also hear exactly how meaningful they are to Jacoby! Awesome band, If you haven't heard them yet, do so NOW!

-> To be loved -Papa Roach

2. McFly
This is a relatively new favorite of mine. Before yesterday really, I had only heard the song they did with Taio Cruz, Shine a light. Since I really loved that song, I figured I possibly would love their other songs as well, so I downloaded their album Above the noise, and what do you know! I loved it! So, as of right now, I do consider them as my current favorites. For those of you who haven't heard any of their songs, I'd say Above the noise has a very electropop-ish sound. Again, if you haven't checked them out yet, do it!

-> Party Girl - McFly

3. Owl City
This, also a new favorite: Adam Young, this guy is unbelieveable! Owl City is Young's solo project with a synthpop falvor. His voice has a very unique touch, and the whole sounds is really incredible. The songs he writes are very uplifting, perfect for when you need cheering up! The bumby rythm really makes you wanna move! The lyrics are really fun, you should definitely go listen to this guy!

-> Umbrella Beach - Owl City

Nation Attacks Enemy

This is a great band for those who like alt mixed with punk and a hint of metal! This is a duo from Finland, two young guys with drums and a guitar as their secret weapons. The vocals are delivered by the guitarist. They have an EP, available on piratebay.org and on youtube.com. If you're interested, go listen to their songs, you wont be disappointed!

Have fun!
